Self-Healing Paint Protection Film

Self-healing Paint Protection Film has an elastomeric top coat that re-flows with heat, so light swirl marks, wash micro-scratches and installation marks disappear when the panel warms in the sun or with warm water. It is a defining feature of TPU film and the main reason TPU is considered premium over TPH and PVC. Self-healing does not repair deep scratches that cut through to the adhesive, and it does not make the film immune to rock chips — but it keeps the surface looking clear and swirl-free for years, which is exactly what fails first on unprotected paint. On GoEV every PPF listing shows a Self-Healing specification (yes/no) alongside material, thickness, top-coat technology, hydrophobic behaviour and warranty, so you can filter to self-healing films only and compare them properly.

How the top coat works

The clear coat is a flexible polymer with 'shape memory'. Shallow deformation relaxes back to flat when thermal energy is added — parked in the sun, after a warm wash, or with a heat gun on a low setting used carefully.

What it will not do

It will not heal cuts that reach the adhesive, will not un-yellow a degraded PVC film, and will not stop a hard stone strike from chipping through. It keeps the everyday swirl and haze away.
